Trade show in a strong industrial region FMB – The supplier show for mechanical engineering 2016 is virtually booked up

There are still around five months to go before the start of FMB – The supplier show for mechanical engineering 2016 – which will be held at Bad Salzuflen Exhibition Centre from 9-11 November 2016, and already the trade show is virtually fully booked. Show Manager Christian Enßle of trade show organiser Clarion Events Deutschland: "We have already received considerably more bookings compared with last year. We anticipate that all of the available spaces in exhibition halls will be occupied in November."

The exhibitors cover the entire value chain of suppliers and service providers for mechanical engineering and find their target group right on site. The reason for this is that East Westphalia-Lippe (OWL), as the home of FMB, has some 700 mechanical engineering companies and their suppliers, which together generate an annual turnover of around 21 billion euros. This makes the region one of the leading locations for mechanical engineering in Europe.

The sector is predominantly composed of SMEs, many businesses are family owned, and numerous mechanical engineering companies based in OWL are among the leaders in their respective market segments. This applies, for instance, to the fields of machine tool building, wood processing, surface technology, the household appliances industry and agricultural machinery engineering.

Regardless of their line of business, the innovative strength of the mechanical engineering companies based in this region is high, as is the extent of their interconnectedness. Initiatives such as OWL Maschinenbau and the Leading-edge PRESS INFORMATION PI03_ industrial region OWL Bad Salzuflen, 30.05.2016 Page 2 of 3 2 Cluster it´s OWL drive this development even further forward, and FMB is an excellent platform where the mechanical engineering companies based in this region can exchange ideas and experience with local suppliers as well as those from further afield. Approximately half of the exhibitors come from outside the region, including high-profile companies as Bosch Rexroth, Festo, Meusburger, SEW and Siemens.

However, mechanical engineering is not the only mainstay of the economy in OWL. It is one of the strongest German economic regions with some 140,000 companies, one million employees and an annual gross domestic product of over 60 billion euros. Manufacturers known across the globe of, for example, automotive supply components, plastic products and foodstuffs, also purchase machines and their components. The heart of the kitchen furniture industry is also to be found here: Two out of three kitchens sold in Germany are manufactured in OWL.

This concentration of industry in close vicinity to the location of the trade show makes FMB interesting as a contact platform – not to mention the fact that focal points of the show, such as electrical and automation engineering, are extremely well represented in the region. Consequently, global players such as Beckhoff, Harting, Phoenix Contact and WAGO will, of course, be taking part in FMB – The supplier show for mechanical engineering 2016.
